Understand the One-Sample t-Test
& plans for the next year
After almost 7 months of having a Youtube channel, I’ve finally created my first video on a hypothesis test. That’s only a little bit faster than your typical university course. Hypothesis tests actually have a lot of background information, so I wanted to make sure that people had access to all the relevant knowledge before putting it up.
Plans for 2024
With the year rounding down, I thought that it would be a good time to start staking out some goals for the next year. I like to have goals set well before the new year actually starts so that I can work on them immediately.
1. Create videos that offer more concrete skills
Most of my videos are explainers or overviews. These are okay for making knowledge more widely available, but I think I could work on providing more value to my viewers. This could take on many forms, but the one that I have in my mind is to make more coding-centric videos. I really believe that doing good statistics starts with being a good statistical programmer.
2. Create a course
One weakness of Youtube is that it’s difficult to put together a string of videos for teaching concepts, especially when many of the concepts build on each other. I think this is what courses are better for, but it’s a slightly different skill than just making the videos. It’s larger scale planning that I’m not used to yet, but I think it’ll be a necessary stepping stone for making the business more sustainable.
3. Provide more value on the Substack
I’d love for this Substack to be a more close-knit community for my viewers. I almost make it a point to not pay too much attention to Youtube comments, even though some people are really nice there. I don’t know much about this, but I want it to be something I pursue in the new year.
If you have stuff you want to see, then let me know! I’m more than happy to try to answer specific questions or teach specific skills.
